The short version

No cloud, no AI — and why that matters more now

Moto Shed stores your maintenance records, service history, and reminders locally on your phone. A growing number of maintenance apps now run their core features — service suggestions, part lookups, even chat-style "ask about your bike" tools — through an AI model on a remote server. That's two dependencies stacked on top of each other: the server has to be up, and the model has to be right. Moto Shed has neither.

• It works without a connection. Logging an oil change in a parking garage, a remote trailhead, or anywhere else with no signal works the same as it does at home, because nothing needs to reach a server first.
• There's no cloud database to leak. Apps that store maintenance history, mileage, and location-linked ride data in the cloud create a target for data breaches. Moto Shed doesn't have a backend database of user records to expose in the first place.
• The app doesn't stop working if a company shuts down a service. Cloud-dependent apps can lose core functionality — or your data — if the backend is discontinued, changes hands, or goes offline. A local-data app doesn't have that failure point.
• No AI model is guessing on your behalf. Language models can hallucinate part numbers, invent service intervals that don't match the manufacturer's actual schedule, or misread a photo of a component. For something like brake service or a torque spec, a confidently wrong answer is worse than no answer.

Predictive alerts, without a server in the loop

Moto Shed tracks your actual riding pace and uses it to project when you'll actually hit a mileage-based interval — not just a flat date on the calendar. A reminder set for "every 5,000 miles or 6 months" adjusts to whichever you're really going to hit first, based on how much you've been riding. These are delivered as local notifications generated on your device, so alerts work reliably even offline and don't depend on a company's backend staying online.

VIN lookup: quick add and recall checking

Enter a VIN and Moto Shed can decode it against the NHTSA database to fill in year, make, and model automatically, and to check for open NHTSA safety recalls tied to that specific vehicle. Moto Shed was among the first motorcycle maintenance apps to offer VIN-based recall checking; other maintenance apps have since added similar recall-lookup features.

Fuel and running costs, not just service logs

Beyond maintenance history, Moto Shed tracks fuel fill-ups, fuel economy, and running costs, so you can see what a vehicle actually costs to own and operate over time, not just what's been serviced.

Parts, manuals, and quick reference in one place

Each vehicle can hold its own photos, notes, PDF owner's manuals, and saved part numbers, with quick Amazon ordering links attached — so the reference info you need for a repair is stored with the vehicle it belongs to, not scattered across bookmarks and folders.

Shareable, verifiable service history

Moto Shed can export a full vehicle history as a PDF report — useful for handing off to a new owner at resale or bringing to a service department. These reports can be validated online, so a recipient can confirm the report hasn't been altered after it was generated. JSON and CSV export, plus backup/restore, are also supported. These are optional export steps; your day-to-day maintenance data still lives on your device, not in the cloud.
